Danielle Smith says “Bury the Line”

Yesterday in Fort Saskatchewan, Wildrose leader Danielle Smith re-emphasized the need to fix Alberta’s electricity pricing system, repeal Bill 50, and bury the Heartland Line if it proceeds. In no small part because of the hard work of so many of our members, we now have the leader of the major opposition party in Alberta actively supporting our position on these issues. The complete unwillingness of the government to listen is disappointing, but we have a friend in the Wildrose leader who is prepared to stand up for Alberta’s energy consumers, property owners, and everyone else who would otherwise be affected by the government’s planned transmission overbuild.

The focus of yesterday’s announcement by Danielle Smith was helping electricity consumers. She made the following commitments:

-repeal Bill 50

-force power generators to pay part of the cost of new transmission lines

-reform the electricity market’s price-setting mechanisms and

-reduce the volatility of the regulated electricity rate

Wildrose has recognized that the current pricing system just isn’t working. We applaud them on all these policy commitments and would encourage you to contact the Sherwood Park Wildrose to share your opinion on these measures (contact info@garnettgenuis.ca).

You can read complete coverage of Danielle’s announcement in the Calgary Herald: http://www.calgaryherald.com/news/alberta/Wildrose+vows+reform+electricity+rates+reduce+spiking+prices/6079859/story.html. You can also watch Danielle’s speech here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgObbnTpViI – although it does not include the Q and A where she discusses line burial.
