Danielle Smith meets with RETA and other Transmission Line Stakeholders

Wildrose leader Danielle Smith met this morning with us and with other transmission line stakeholders at Strathcona County Hall. She made very clear in that meeting that she and her party are foursquare behind us as we continue the fight to stop the Heartland Line from going in. Danielle met with Strathcona County councillors, RETA representatives, Colchester parents, and the chair of the Elk Island Public School Board. (Local Wildrose candidates were also present). Danielle was very keen to understand all of the details of the project and the various issues involved.

After the meeting, Danielle spoke to media and made very clear again that in her view (1) the lines are not needed, (2) the lines are worth stopping even if construction on them has already begun and (3) if lines are built, they should be buried.

We applaud Danielle Smith for her willingness to meet with us and to stand in support of the people who will be affected by this unjustified overbuild of Alberta’s transmission grid. RETA is prepared to work with and within any party which will act on this issue, but at this point there is one party leader who is listening to us and is standing with us.
