Election Call Imminent

An election call is expected some time this week, with a vote happening 28 days after that. A change of government will likely be required in order to stop the Heartland Transmission Line from going in, therefore RETA is pleased that the election is finally upon us. This election will provide us with one last chance to stop the Heartland Transmission Line from going in.

The Wildrose Party announced today that they have nominated candidates in all of Alberta’s 87 ridings. They have also unveiled their campaign bus. This is the first time in at least a decade that an opposition party in Alberta has had a campaign bus. This signals a significant shift in Alberta politics – a return to a competitive world in which the election will actually be up for grabs.

There will be many issues in this election, but two of the biggest will by the disaster that is our electricity system and the lack of accountability in Alberta’s government in recent years. RETA is asking all candidates and parties to present their ideas for a better electricity system (without unneeded transmission lines), and a more accountable government that listens when people in a community stand up strongly and make their voices heard.
