AUC Lacks Constitutional Authority to Approve Power Lines

Alberta landowners opposed to the Western Alberta Transmission Line and Eastern Alberta Transmission Line have filed an appeal today challenging the Alberta Utilities Commission’s authority to approve routes for these two lines, suggesting the main purpose of the lines is to export electricity (Canadian Press).

Wildrose news release says, “The appeal filed today asks that the court find that the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) does not have jurisdiction to approve the Eastern Alberta Transmission Line (EATL) and the Western Alberta Transmission Line (WATL) as they will be used as a part of an international network built for the purpose of exporting electricity.”
